Dear Sally Ann Hart MP and Jane Howard-Smith,

Thank you for providing the link to the complaints policy document

I appreciate your assistance and the resources provided.

However, I am seeking further clarification on how to effectively address issues with organizations that are “highly evasive.” My primary concern revolves around the situation involving my daughter, Emily. She is currently under the care of an organization where she feels voiceless and incarcerated as if she were an adult. This situation is deeply troubling to me as a parent, and I am desperate to understand the processes and measures in place to ensure her well-being and rights are being respected.

The financial aspect of child care is also a significant concern. It has come to my attention that the cost of caring for a child can reach an astonishing £281,000 per year, as highlighted by George Monbiot in his informed Guardian newspaper article (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/may/18/child-care-cost-year-wealth-funds-councils-britain-residential). This figure is perplexing and raises several questions about the allocation and management of funds within the system. Monbiot points out that these exorbitant costs are often driven by the involvement of private equity firms and wealth funds that have turned children’s residential care into a lucrative business, exerting significant financial pressure on local councils.

Can you provide insights into why these costs are so exorbitant and how such funds are being utilized? More importantly, I am concerned about the implications of this financial burden on the welfare of the children in care. There appears to be a troubling parallel between these costs and the commercialization of children’s care, which can be likened to modern-day slavery. This is not just a financial issue but a moral and ethical one that affects the lives and futures of vulnerable children and young women.

Moreover, I am deeply disturbed by the notion that unlawful acts might be occurring within these care organizations. How are these practices being allowed to transpire in England, and what steps are being taken to address and prevent them? It is crucial for parents and guardians to have confidence in the systems designed to protect and nurture their children.

I would greatly appreciate a detailed response addressing these concerns. Specifically, I seek guidance on how to navigate and challenge evasive organizations, a clear breakdown of the financial aspects of child care, and an explanation of the measures in place to prevent the exploitation and mistreatment of children and young women in care.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt and comprehensive response.
