The true story of Genie Wiley: The feral child kept in isolation for 13 Years is an indication of what keeping children in isolation in care homes does to them. This video tells the story of Genie Wiley, a feral child who was victimized by her parents and grew up in isolation. Genie was left alone in a dark bedroom for years and grew up with almost no human interaction. Is this what our social services system are creating making these children like Emily devoid of contact with their family when it is a lawful stated part of their incarceration to be provided with contact? Anything else would breach section 20.

It seems doctors never got answers about Genies development delays.

Here is what is known, and not only was Genie deprived of regular opportunities to practice language. She was abused in so many ways. Does it really matter if the doctor understood delays. Here is another little girl who had a horrific life. The system failed her parents failed her and could not change what was happening, even her team failed her. Most of them accepted that all their intentions had been in the right place, their methods where flawed. As medical professionals and scientific professionals who might be reading this would consider it was hard for them to draw the line in giving Genie the love and care that she so deserved and desperately needed, versus collecting data and information that could be used to help others in the future. It has been said that it is felt that it is not even possible for them toe the line. They needed a neutral liaison to advocate for Genie something Mr. Colm McCafferty Interim Childrens Director without moral compass or lawful behavior would provide for Emily which is clearly suggested in this video and story of flawed methods re still happening today.

Clearly For social workers at the Los Angeles County Welfare Office, Wednesday November 4th, 1970, started off just like any other day. But that afternoon, when the door to their office swung open, it would stop everyone in their tracks. Standing before them was a girl who would become known as Genie Wiley, the “Feral Child.” Genie Wiley was alleged to be confined to a potty-training chair and kept in a makeshift straitjacket for over a decade by her parents, Clark Wiley and Irene Wiley. The National Institute of Mental Health, had agreed to fund a scientific project on Genie. From 1971 to 1975, the genie team explored the “Developmental Consequence of Extreme Social Isolation.” Genie’s circumstances provided a rare opportunity to study brain and speech development – specifically how language makes us human. But the study came at a cost.

It seems like absolutely nothing has changed in fifty years. Isn’t this reminiscent of what happens to children in care? It becomes far more concerning when you consider Victor, a 12-year-old child who had been in France, and how he demonstrated the life of a child deprived of society, much like the savage Mowgli, a fictional character created by Rudyard Kipling. Is this what the future of adults will have in their background from the care system?

One must grasp the origins of this situation. In 1972, the mother filed papers, marking the beginning of this chaotic situation which left Genie only capable of constructing short sentences, eventually leading to her seclusion from society.

At her most formative years in her teens, it is said Genie became silently depressed and institutionalized. The door was again shut for her. Her soul was sick!

There is a lot to unpack here but really want to hear from you.
