Who are “Locate International” – Social Workers using a remote system?

The IP address and email headers point to 20i’s hosted mail/server infrastructure. They do not prove the sender’s physical location. This means it is consistent with a remote-working email system hosted on 20i, where an authorised user could send email from home, office, mobile, or abroad, while the email still appears to come through the same 20i IP address

20i’s own site describes itself as a hosting provider powering websites and offering hosting infrastructure/support services. Its legal pages also identify 20i Limited as the company operating the hosting services from that registered office.

So, if you’re seeing Hawthorn House / 20i Limited in relation to Locate International, it most likely means Locate International’s website or online services are hosted through 20i, not that Locate International has staff or public offices at that address.

In plain English: 20i is probably the web host/server provider; Locate International is just one of the websites/customers using that infrastructure.

They could be anywhere in the world and that email would still look like it came from that same IP address.

Because they are using a centralized mail server (the “digital post office” in Nottingham), the IP address you see on the email is just the last exit point before it reached you.

Here are the three most likely scenarios for where the person actually was:

1. Their Official Office

They are sitting at their desks in Devon or Somerset, connected to their office Wi-Fi. Their computer sends the data to the Nottingham server, which then forwards it to you.

2. Working from Home (Remote)

4. Is there any way to see where they actually were?

The reason you are seeing a disconnect between the company addresses (like London or Devon) and the server location (Nottingham) is exactly what that article suggests:

The “Social Worker” or “Investigator” is Remote: They could be anywhere in the UK.
