In the course of gathering evidence for The Stealing of Emily, I recently dispatched two time-critical Special Delivery parcels to 10 Downing Street. The scan history supplied by Royal Mail conflicts with the information I later obtained from their customer-service line. Because these packages form part of my legal evidence bundle, I am publishing the full text of my formal request for an internal investigation so that the process remains transparent.
Subject: Request for Investigation: Tracking Anomalies and Delivery Verification for DS340986620GB & DS340986029GB
Dear Royal Mail Investigations Team,
I am writing to formally report and request clarification regarding two Special Delivery parcels—tracking codes DS340986620GB and DS340986029GB—both of which were addressed to 10 Downing Street, London.
On 13 May 2025 at 3:33 PM, tracking records confirm that parcel DS340986620GB left Hastings. However, by 4:58 AM on 14 May 2025, it was marked as “Collected” in London. This less-than-14-hour turnaround raises concern—not due to efficiency, but due to inconsistency and confusion over the scan data and status updates.
When I contacted Royal Mail Customer Services at 10:47:55 PM on 14 May, I was informed after a lengthy call (approximately 53 minutes) via 0345 774 0740 that:
“There has been a mis-scan. Something has gone wrong. We have it at the Customer Services Depot, which doesn’t open until 8:00 AM. ‘Collected and Signed For’ is an incorrect scan.”
Further statements included:
“Neither item has been delivered to No. 10 as of the time of this call.”
When I identified myself as the sender, the agent responded:
“Just a minute—are you the sender?”
“I did not realize this was 10 Downing Street.”
Given the sensitivity of the contents, which form part of evidence in legal proceedings, I must formally request the following:
- Confirmation of delivery of both parcels DS340986620GB and DS340986029GB, including the exact delivery timestamp, recipient signature, and any proof-of-delivery image(s) available.
- Access to the call recording with Daniel (Oxford Call Centre) who handled my query—this conversation forms part of my evidence bundle for court.
- An internal investigation into the scan errors, given the high-profile destination and the implications of falsified or erroneous delivery information.
- Clarification: If subpoenaed, will Royal Mail be able to legally confirm and verify delivery or non-delivery under oath?
This is not just a logistical issue—it concerns the integrity of Royal Mail’s tracking and proof-of-delivery systems in handling correspondence to the highest level of government.
I would appreciate a prompt and transparent response.
Kind regards,
Mr Martin Newbold
