Introduction

We have written to the Office for National Statistics to request clarification about serious gaps and inconsistencies in public data concerning local authorities, care-sector oversight, and councillor interests.

The Care Quality Commission’s published provider list is out of date, with many councils merged or renamed years ago, and yet their legacy identifiers remain active. This makes it impossible to produce an accurate picture of who is responsible for safeguarding oversight or to trace the true ownership of care services.

Our letter asks the National Statistician to coordinate with the CQC, Companies House, and the Department for Levelling Up to produce a single, authoritative register linking councils, councillors’ declared interests, and regulated care providers.

We wrote to the National Statistics Office as the list produced by CQC was not UpToDate and these poor 430,000 missing children that it’s a shame you can’t resolve this or make anything you of this crappy government data that doesn’t even know what council or local authority are called let alone the crime that is happening with their councilors? How can a councilor run a care home and then have calls from the public asking where their children are and this not be a conflict of interest. I have a partial data set that states there is 6k of these companies owned by these Local Councilors before Company House blocked my IP . why are these people aware of these sadistic abductions?

Our concern is not only about missing or unreliable records, but also about potential conflicts of interest. Where elected councillors or senior officials hold directorships in companies that run care homes, the public needs to know that decisions on funding, inspection, and placement are free from private influence. Transparency about these relationships is essential to maintain public trust.

Preliminary analysis—based on open Companies House data collected before technical access was blocked—suggests thousands of care-related companies list sitting councillors as directors. These figures require official verification. The absence of coherent, up-to-date government datasets hinders such verification and undermines accountability in a system meant to protect vulnerable children and adults.

Dear National Statistician,

I am writing to request clarification about inconsistencies in government-published data on local authorities and regulated care providers.

During independent analysis of public datasets—including local-authority lists, Companies House records, and Care Quality Commission (CQC) registers—I have found numerous discrepancies:

• Local authorities that no longer exist following mergers or boundary changes still appear in official sources with active identifiers.
• Many CQC records reference obsolete council names or out-of-date local-authority boundaries.
• Large portions of community and children’s social-care data are missing or rely on inspections more than four years old.
• These inconsistencies make it difficult to determine which authority is currently responsible for safeguarding oversight, particularly where councils have merged into unitary authorities (for example, Christchurch Borough Council into Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Council).

Given these issues, could you please clarify:

1. Which dataset should be considered the authoritative list of current local-authority names and codes (including historical mapping of abolished authorities to new ones)?
2. How the ONS, DLUHC, and CQC coordinate updates when local-government reorganisations occur?
3. Whether there are plans to publish a single, cross-referenced dataset linking local-authority identifiers, CQC provider registrations, and relevant statistical geographies, so public and academic researchers can analyse safeguarding and care data accurately?

Accurate, up-to-date information is essential to monitor outcomes for vulnerable children and adults. I would appreciate a written response explaining how these data-maintenance issues are being addressed.
