I am currently facing significant challenges with Southern Regional College in Newry regarding their handling of data protection and stakeholder engagement. I have made several formal requests for information about the college’s acceptance of placements under Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), specifically seeking data on the number of such placements currently at the college. Unfortunately, despite multiple follow-ups, I have not received any response.

Additionally, I requested a meeting with the Children’s Commissioner to discuss these concerns but have not received any indication that this meeting has occurred or is scheduled.

This situation has involved a toxic judicial procedure in both Northern Ireland and mainland UK, further complicating efforts to address these issues. The lack of response and transparency from the college, combined with the judicial challenges, raises serious concerns. Moreover, there are allegations of coercive practices by professionals involved, which exacerbate the situation and hinder the resolution of these issues.

This situation has been heavily criticized by England’s most senior family judge, who described it as a “crisis.” His concerns are echoed by the Children’s Commissioner for England, who has called the impact of these orders “absolutely horrific” and a “national scandal.”
